Halmari Assam
Halmari Assam
Miro Tea
Ingredients: Assam Black Tea
On a day that everything electronic related seems to be declaring they are on strike, it seemed a necessity to slow down and force myself to take a tea break. So decided on a new to me single estate tea from the Halmari Estate that I purchased from Miro Tea.
Halmari Tea Estate belongs to the Daga Family. With a legacy of over 100 years of experience, expertise and an equally strong pursuit of quality, Halmari stands tall as one of the top ranking gardens of Assam.
Located in the Moran Belt on the Fertile Plains of Upper Assam, this Assam is described as a “rich and malty Assam with a burnt sugar aftertaste”.
I prepared mine in 200 water and noted after steeping it for slightly less than three minutes my cup had already taken on a dark chocolate colored profile that appeared rich in taste.
This is definitely a very stout blend. The flavor profile is clean with a good balance and complexity beyond the malt. It has an earthy range to it with some mineral taste that does dissipate but then picks up minor notes of astringency. It’s definitely an immensely satisfying cup with its bold rich flavor. It does finish with the light caramel / burnt sugar aftertaste that lays at the back of the tongue.
Whereas most prefer their assams to be more malty than what Halmari’s Assam brings, I really enjoyed the intricacy of this blend because with each sip it brought out different facets. It has a complexity to it which I actually quite enjoyed.
I look forward to having this again in the near future and seeing how my experience changes.
